New for April 2020

Easter Sunday and its message of new life may seem far off for many of us during the current global pandemic, but Christ's victory over death in his Resurrection remains a foundational reality for Christians, even if it may seem like we are fixed in the day after Good Friday. I have selected three images for the month of April of Resurrection stories in the Gospels from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection, depicting Peter at the empty tomb (left) and Christ's appearances to Mary Magdalene and two disciples on the road to Emmaus, taken from the S.P.C.K. Giant Picture Book series of Sunday school materials, published in 1950 by the London-based Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. They are poster reproductions of paintings of the life of Christ by Elsie Anna Wood, a British Bible illustrator whose work incorporates landscapes and authentic details of daily life in Palestine, gleaned from time she spent in the Holy Land. The trio of posters joins one of Christ appearing to Thomas and the disciples already in the pages of The Resurrection of Christ gallery of The Life of Christ section. Stay safe. Wait in prayer.
