For September, I have more woodblock prints from Czech Graphic Artist Helena Bochorakova-Dittrichova to bring on-line from her wordless book, Christ: 32 woodcuts from the New Testament. Largely unknown outside her homeland, she finally received international recognition for her pioneering printmaking in the 2014 exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., The First Woman Graphic Novelist: Helena Bochorakova-Dittrichova, featuring illustrations from six of her picture books. You can find beautiful examples of her minimal expressionist style in this month's selections from the life of Christ woodcut suite, beginning with prints of Christ's encounters with people like the Samaritan woman at the well and concluding with images taking us from Christ's Passion and Resurrection to his Ascension.
