As we continue in the Season of Lent, the new images for March from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection all depict scenes from the Crucifixion, the central image of Christian iconography. Seven studies of Christ's death on the Cross have been added to the Crucifixion page in the Passion of Christ gallery in the Life of Christ section, including a batik textile piece by Tanzanian Artist A. Mropa; mixed media paintings by American Outsider Artists Rudolph Valentino Bostic and John G. Ernst; and three etchings by American Graphic Artist Arthur Heintzelman, Romanian-American Printmaker Andre Racz, and an unknown French artist who sets the Crucifixion in Provence with cowboys of the Camargue in attendance. There is also a curious woodcut by Brazilian Artist Amaro Francisco Borges, where both angels and devils gather at the Cross. A complete set of pencil drawings of the Stations of the Cross by English Artist Arthur Kemp is now on view in the Stations of the Cross galleries in the Themes of Faith Section. You can also read a new meditation in the Themes of Faith section, "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?," presenting the lyrics of great hymns of the Church about the Crucifixion from Greek Orthodox anthems to sawdust trail revivalist songs, accompanied by images of Christ's Descent from the Cross in a variety of media by international artists.
