New for August 2017

The return from vacation can often seem like Paradise Lost, so, for those of you who share my midsummer mood, I have selected six new images for August from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection depicting the Creation, Fall, and Expulsion of humanity from the Garden of Eden.  Peruvian Textile Artist Eleodora Salvatierra presents a pristine view of Paradise before the appearance of Adam and Eve in her applique embroidered cloth panel. We see Eve being drawn out of the side of Adam by God in a surreal gouache on plant fiber painting (left) by an unknown Egyptian Coptic Artist. Printmaker Rebecca L.G. Prescott offers an Australian Aboriginal version of the creation of the first humans watched over by a primordial kangaroo. The moment of temptation, when Eve eats the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is depicted in a wood engraved bookplate by Czech Graphic Artist Michael Florian and in an "eye candy" shadow box by Albuquerque Artist Johnny Salas. All ends with the Expulsion from Paradise, seen in a painting on leather by an unknown Ethiopian artist. The sextet of images can now be viewed in The Garden of Eden page in The Old Testament gallery of the Bible Stories & Parables section. (John Kohan)
